This class is designed to provide students with a better understanding of Chinese characters, pinyin, radicals and Chinese culture. This class is mainly taught in Mandarin so that students can have more opportunities to practice their listening skills. In order to get students involved, this class is student- centered and has various teaching methods, including TPR (Total physical response), reading aloud, thinking aloud, and think-pair-share etc.
Because this is a small sized class, every students have lots of chances to practice the words they learn. Compared with the previous two books, book three put more emphasis on reading and writing. Since writing is the most difficult part for most of Chinese learners, the students are asked to practice their writing by taking notes, making sentences and writing journals.
